Shakira has teamed up with the new South African artist Freshlyground Band to bring us “Waka Waka (This time for Africa)” song. Written by the most popular Colombian singer Shakira. This song has been chosen as the official Song for the forthcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Borrowing the well known Cameroonian marching chant used by the Golden voices group. And the track highlights are Afro-Colombian instrumentation and Southern African guitar beats.
This song will be performed on the Ceremony for the FIFA World Cup Final on July 11 by Shakira and Freshlyground at the Johannesburg Soccer City Stadium.
It will be available on Digital outlets on May 11, where all the proceeds will benefit FIFA’s official 2010 World Cup campaign.
Shakira says that “The FIFA World Cup is a miracle of global excitement, which connects every country, religion, race, and condition around a single passion”. “This even has the power to unite and integrate, and that’s what this song is about.”
