The Top 10 Rock Songs of 2011 is really a mix of old and new successe over the past years. 2011 saw the return of favorites such as the Foo Fighters and Seether, while bands like Korn and Sum 41 experimented — and succeeded — in evolving their sound.
Meanwhile, the demand for rising acts such as Adelita’s Way proves that there is plenty of promise left to be heard in the genre. Below are the 10 songs of 2011 which became favorites on AOL Radio’s rock stations.
10. ”All Signs Point to Lauderdale”- A Day to Remember
This single off A Day to Remember a fourth studio album, ‘What Separates Me from You,’ is one of the three songs from the band that was a favorite among AOL Radio rock listeners in 2011.
However, it was ‘All Signs Point to Lauderdale’ which stood out from the others, having a solid mix of rock, punk, metal and big hooks that caught our attention.
09: ‘Fur Cue’-Seether
Although ‘Fur Cue’ wasn’t released as an official single off Seether’s ‘Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray,’ the staff at AOL Radio took a liking to it early on.
In return, the listeners agreed by helping it become one of the biggest rock songs on AOL Radio in 2011.
8. ‘Monster You Made’- Pop Evil
After delivering an impressive second album with “War of Angels” (produced by Johnny K), Pop Evil became a mainstay for rock radio in 2011.
The great lyrical content of “Monster You Made” connected with our listeners with a powerful chorus: “It’s not over / Say it’s not over / I’m begging for mercy / I’m only the monster you made me.”
7. ‘Blood In My Eyes’- Sum 41
Talented Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley showcased his skills at producing by handling all the production on the band’s latest album, ‘Screaming Bloody Murder.’
Not only was the title track a big hit for AOL Radio this year, their follow up single, ‘Blood In My Eyes’ was even more dominant. The song has also been nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance’ category.
6. ‘Lies of the Beautiful People’- Sixx: A.M.
Nikki Sixx picked up where he left off in 2007 with another new album/book. The talented combo of Sixx, James Michael and DJ Ashba didn’t let fans down, especially with the lead single ‘Lies of The Beautiful People.’
5. ‘Been to Hell’- Hollywood Undead
After Hollywood Undead lost their frontman, Deuce, a lot of fans didn’t know what to expect from the band this time around. The group proved they could rebound with the song,
“Been to Hell,” which ended up being one of the many hits off the album, ‘American Tragedy.’
4. ‘Rope’- Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters are one of the biggest bands in the rock so it’s no surprise that a track from their seventh album, ‘Wasting Light,’ makes it on our Top 10 Rock Songs of 2011 list.
‘Rope’ ended up being one of the more successful singles off the album, having climbed to the top of the US Alternative, Mainstream and Rock Songs Billboard charts.
3. ‘Get Up’ Feat- Skrillex-Korn
The emergence of dubstep and rock came on strong in this past year led in part by the collaboration between Korn and Skrillex.
The song is featured on the Madden 2012 soundtrack and serves as the lead single off ‘The Path of Totality,’ Korn’s new album which features a different sound from what the band has to put out over the years.
2. ‘Sick’- Adelita’s Way
‘Sick’ served as the lead single for Adelita’s Way’s album, ‘Home School Valedictorian.’ The Las Vegas-based band collaborated with Dave Bassett and Tadpole to produce their sophomore effort, which went as high as number four on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.
1. ‘Under and Over It’- Five Finger Death Punch
The aggressive first single off Five Finger Death Punch’s latest album, ‘American Capitalist,’ proved to be the biggest song of the year across multiple AOL Radio rock stations including Xtreme Alt Rock, New Rock First, Hard Rock and Metal Mosh Pit.
The song was written as a response to Internet rumors circling about the band, asking “Did you hear the one…” multiple times.
The song was a fan favorite on AOL Radio and thus, we name it the number one rock song in 2011.
